Talk around 'FANkato today was rookie QB TEDDY BRIDGEWATER may get some Friday-night run with the first team. The Vikings host the Raiders, and if this is the case, yeah, it's a tightly contested, all-out battle for the starting spot between Teddy and MATT CASSEL.
Chatted with COACH ZIMMER shortly after #92Noon today and he shared he expects Teddy to "play very well Friday night." And that "he will play quite a bit." I am beginning to feel the starters on offense may play the entire first quarter, or the amount of time for Cassel to get two series and Teddy at least one behind the first OL.
ADRIAN will not suit up Friday night and I am not sure WR GREG JENNINGS will, but the key for Bridgewater to have a fair chance to in the Sprint to St. Louis Stakes is for him to be protected by The Minnesota Moving Company, which is the starting OL.
I still believe Cassel gets the money into the regular season but also know OC NORV TURNER is very high on the rookie, and that opinion matters most. Even though there's no reason to rush the rookie and force him into something with which he's not comfortable I am getting the sense he is impressing as much behind the scenes (mind work, film study, being inquisitive) as he does at times on the field.
And I stick by what I have said all offseason - there's no disputing you can do more offensively with Teddy given he offers more of a running and read-option threat. Cassel, though, obviously has seen much more and should have a better grasp on what to expect, so that has to keep him favored in this race.
Matt, though, is a lukewarm favorite in this two-horse race, and the gates pop with the real race (game situations) Friday night against Oakland. If Bridgewater does everything expected of him and more this preseason it will be difficult for the staff to sit him to start the season. This is fun.
