What was your favorite Villa 7 moment? Sources continue to confirm that Flip Saunders emerged Friday as the No. 1 candidate for the Gophers coaching job.

Saunders, the former Gopher who later coached the Timberwolves, is in Indianapolis, Ind., tracking the Michigan State Spartans, who play tonight in the Round of 16  of the NCAA tournament. Sources say Indianapolis also happens to be where Gophers athletic director Norwood Teague is stationed today in hopes of a securing a deal.

What are the odds that Saunders ends up battling Tom Izzo for college recruits rather than supporting him? The  situation is fluid. Sources tell us that though Saunders is the coach Teague now wants, no deal has yet been struck between the school and Saunders.

There is also this potential complication: Could Saunders be asked to run the Timberwolves?
Saunders had previously confirmed that he had been approached by a potential ownership ground interested in buying the team from Glen Taylor. That group is not at the top of the prospective ownership list, but Taylor still has a decision to make regarding the future of current chief brain wizard David Kahn, whose contract is up later this spring.

The question: Might the Gophers’ interest in Saunders escalate Taylor’s?
