The Gophers took the field at TCF Bank Stadium today for their annual Spring Game in front of a crowd of 4,752. Only one touchdown was made during the game, credited to redshirt freshman Berkley Edwards.

Mitch Leidner, the redshirt sophomore who will inevitably start in the QB position for the Gophers, completed 7 of 15 passes for 74 yards today.

Kickers Andrew Harte and Ryan Santoso, both redshirt freshman, made good impressions today. Harte kicked a 53-yard field goal, while Santoso put up at 46-yarder.

Jerry Kill

Coach Kill watched the game from the sidelines today and had this to say regarding what he thought of his team”

-It’s different for me, I like being on the field…it went well, it wasn’t sloppy but we had a couple things that we weren’t pleased with, a couple penalties. We got a chance to play a lot of kids today, especially young kids.

Kill spoke about QB Mitch Leidner:

-“He’s had a good spring, no question about that. I thought he did some good things today.”

Kill said he was particularly impressed with Berkley Edwards, who scored a touchdown today, in terms of his pass protection.

Cameron Botticelli

Sat out the game today but had this to say regarding being a senior:

-“You’re partially responsible for the development of the younger guys and I’ve been given all the tools that I need, both from the staff and the older players that have come before me, to do that.”

Although he wasn’t playing, Botticelli said he got plenty of work in during spring ball and wasn’t necessarily disappointed that he wasn’t playing.

-“Really it’s a reward for all your hard work in spring ball to come out here and perform in front of the fans.I wasn’t on the field today but it’s exciting, exhilarating to be here and be around my teammates and watch them grow and get better in front of everyone’s face right here at TCF”

Max Williams

Williams is rehabbing a knee injury and did not play today, he expressed his disappointment in an interview with Justin Gaard during the game.

Williams commented on Mitch Leidner being the unquestioned QB this season:

“Mitch really has stepped up just that next level of his game, just knowing he has to be the true leader, he is the guy now that we have to count on when it matters.”
