It was the perfect start to the Major League Baseball season on Monday as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Kansas Royals in convincing fashion, 7-1.

The Twins were led by pitcher Ervin Santana who pitched seven strong innings allowing just two hits and one run while walking two and striking out three en route to the win.

Offensively, third baseman Miguel Sano crushed his first home run of the season and shortstop Jorge Polanco and catcher Jason Castro both finished with two hits.

Byron Buxton, while quiet at the plate, caused quite a stir thanks to his defense as he made two incredible diving catches to rob the Royals of hits and aid Santana to a victory.

With the win, the Twins are 1-0 for the first time since 2008.
