Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Jason Adam from the Kansas City Royals, in exchange for outfielder Josh Willingham.
The 23-year-old pitched in 27 games (18 starts) between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha, going 5-9, 4.67 ERA (113.2 IP, 59 ER) with 34 walks and 100 strikeouts. He was selected by Kansas City in the fifth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, posting a career record of 26-41, 4.38 ERA (520.0 IP, 253 ER) with 149 walks and 425 strikeouts in 101 games (92 start). He will report to Double-A New Britain.
To replace Willingham on the 25-man roster, the Twins have returned Joe Mauer from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 15-day disabled list. Mauer appeared in four games for Single-A Cedar Rapids, going 6-for-15 (.400).
