Jared Allen Presents House to Injured Veteran Amidst Free Agency Visits

On a typical year, with typical players, the first week of NFL free agency is filled with players jet-setting the country to meet with prospective teams seeking out their services. Outside of the player's closest friends and family, it's typically a time where one will think only of themselves trying to break the bank and sign a deal that sets them up nice for the long-term.

That's what normally happens, but it's definitely not what happened with former Vikings defensive end Jared Allen.

One day removed from a visit with the Seattle Seahawks and hours before heading to Dallas for a two day meeting with the Cowboys, Jared Allen took a trip to south-western Minnesota where the NFL Pro Bowler had remodeled and expanded the home of a wounded veteran.

Up until yesterday, Luverne, MN was better known as the home of the Blue Mound State Park, the Pizza Ranch on Main Street, and the home town of my lovely mother. But yesterday, Luverne was on the map because Jared Allen stopped by to cut the ribbon on Andrew Hanson's newly upgraded home.

In 2007, At the age of 21, Andrew Hanson lost both of his legs when a roadside bomb exploded while Hanson was serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Monday afternoon he not only met Jared Allen, but he was able to tour his new handicap accessible home and was presented his brand new Lund fishing boat courtesy of Allen's foundation.

Since 2011, Jared Allen's Homes For Wounded Warriors foundation has been raising money to create handicap accessible homes for injured members of the United States Military. Hanson is Wounded Warrior number seven for the foundation.

Jared's still playing the game and visiting with team's around the league, but when a guy is quite literally in the middle of the job interview process, you'd think if he was fully invested in football, he would be fully invested in football during this process.

Nobody knows exactly what Jared's future may hold, but we continue to learn more and more about the many things that he may use to fill his time if in fact he decides to hang it up.
