Minneapolis, MN - Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner made a rare pre-training camp appearance Monday morning with KFAN Radio and The Paul Allen Show. While most of the discussion surrounded vacation festivities and final preparations before jumping into the grind, Turner did divulge a little information that may give some insight towards which direction the team is leaning at the quarterback position.

Asked who he thinks will be the starting quarterback for the Vikings first preseason game against the Oakland Raiders, Turner originally deflected saying "these are things that Coach [Mike] Zimmer, he's going to have opinions on." But then Turner shed a little more light on his early assessment of each of the three QB options.

"It's going to be fun," Turner said. "I think that Matt Cassel has had an outstanding spring and is just getting himself ready to really have a good year."

On rookie Teddy Bridgewater, Norv continued saying, "Teddy's been really, really impressive and a lot further along then I expected him to be."

And then Turner threw in the obligatory Christian Ponder update adding, "I know people beat up on him, [but] I've been impressed with Christian [Ponder.] With his physical abilities, they way he's worked and the progress he's made. He's a eliminating a lot of the negative plays."

So how do you read into it? Personally, I notice that the only player he gave a prediction about for the 2014 season was Matt Cassel. I then move on to the length assessment he gave on Christian Ponder. And then I land on Teddy Bridgewater. From what I've seen, and continuing from this interview, I think the Vikings are downplaying what they are seeing and what they have planned for Teddy Bridgewater. That said, if I had to put together a depth chart today, it would certainly read Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater and Christian Ponder (in that order).

Take from it what you may, and while you're at it check out the complete interview in the media player below.
