Mankato, MN -As the Vikings week one match up against the St. Louis Rams continues to get closer and closer, it appears as if veteran quarterback Matt Cassel continues to put some distance between himself and rookie Teddy Bridgewater for the starting spot.

Cassel took the starting reps for the team's first preseason game and today Coach Zimmer announced that Matt will take the first team reps on Saturday against the Cardinals.

"I hope Matt [Cassel] continues to do what he's been doing [on Saturday night]," Zimmer said Thursday. "He has been making the right decisions, he has been getting the team in and out of the right plays."

Cassel led the first team offense on a 10 play, 70 yard touchdown drive to open the preseason last weekend completing 5/6 passes for 62 yards. In the time since the first game he has also continued to take steps forward while Bridgewater has thrown upwards of five interceptions over the past two days.

Additionally, Zimmer tipped his hand a little bit as to how much Cassel might play this weekend.

"[Matt] has a change to have the entire first half," Zimmer told the media Thursday morning in Mankato.

That would leave the majority of the second-half for Teddy Bridgewater and unless something dramatic happens against Cassel and for Bridgewater, this is likely the same sort of snap assignments that we will see for the Vikings third preseason game next week.

Do you agree with the coaching staff that Matt Cassel should be the team's starting quarterback to start the season?
