Mankato, MN - The official Minnesota Vikings depth chart has yet to be released leading up to Friday's first preseason game against the Oakland Raiders. That said, pieces are starting to be revealed. By no means a gigantic surprise, but sources close to the situation have confirmed the starters for Friday at two of the positions that are rumored to be up in the air.

At quarterback, Matt Cassel will be Friday night's starter for the Vikings at the University of Minnesota.

Over the past week, Cassel has been splitting first team reps with rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater and Matt's lack of separation between the rookie have led many to speculate where the quarterback battle actually stands. There is plenty of time to adjust before week one in St. Louis, but for this Friday night's preseason game against the Raiders, it will be Matt Cassel under center.

This is not all bad for Teddy who will likely see more time Friday night as the number two quarterback than he would if he were in with the ones. Depending on how the drives play out, Cassel is expected to take the field for the team's first two or three series and will most likely hand the ball off most of the time.

Another spot of question for the Vikings has been the strong safety position opposite of Harrison Smith. With Robert Blanton sidelined with a hamstring injury and the newly signed Chris Crocker now added into the mix, the battle for the start rages on between Crocker, Sanford, Exum, Coleman, Raymond, Bishop and Sendejo.

However for Friday night, the starting nod will go to Jamarca Sanford.

Sanford was the team's starter at SS last season before an injury sidelined him for the final three games of the year and opened the door for Sendejo to show his acumen. Sendejo took the field for the first day on Monday after a back injury held him out.

The official depth chart with the rest of this week's starters is expected to be released to Vikings.com later this week.
