Eden Prairie, MN - Back in Eden Prairie at their Winter Park home for the extent of "training camp," the Minnesota Vikings took to the field for a morning walkthrough and head coach Mike Zimmer met the media just like it was any other day. Only this day, Zimmer was in prime form!

Matt Cassel named starter for Saturday vs Kansas City, BUT...
After following up a solid first preseason game with an even more impressive second game this past week, Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel has already been named the team's starter for their third preseason game.

"Cassel will start this week," Zimmer said following the morning walk thru. Asked if Teddy might see some times with the first team offense again, Zimmer smiled and said, "That's a possibility."

Last Saturday, both quarterbacks had good outings. While Cassel finished the first half 12/16 passing for 153 yards and a TD, a passer rating of 125.3, the rookie came in for the second half and posted 16/20 completions for 177 yards and 2 TDs, a rating of 136.9.

Safety Robert Blanton returns to practice today...
It's been about three weeks since Robert Blanton left the field with a hamstring injury the second week of training camp in Mankato. According to coach Zimmer, Monday afternoon will mark Blanton's first return to the practice field even if it is on a limited basis. Thankfully for him, none of the players behind him have jumped up to snatch his starting spot.

"We need to keep evaluating them," Zimmer said Monday morning. "Some of them there wasn’t a lot of action and some of the plays for them. And that’s the one problem with safeties, sometimes you don’t get a lot of action, so we’ve got to continue to evaluate them again this week and probably the fourth preseason game, too. We’re going to keep dividing the reps, trying to rotate guys in there and figure out what’s the best way to go."

Blanton is still the favorite to get the nod for week one, but he'll have some ground to make up after missing a few weeks with the injury.

Linval Joseph returns to the sidelines...
Nose Tackle Linval Joseph was spotted on the sidelines during morning walk thru for the first time since being shot in the calf at a Minneapolis night club a few weekends ago. While Linval's rehab appears to be ahead of schedule, Zimmer said that he doubts Joseph will play this weekend and is unlikely to appear in the preseason at all.

Josh Robinson stuck in the coaches doghouse...
A week after coach uttered the now famous words, "you can't make the club in the tub", he was back at it again on Monday sending a message to the injured cornerback through the media. Asked whether Blanton and Robinson would be on the field today Zimmer responded by saying, "Blanton's going to go today. And the other guy? Who knows?" And the body language was even worse! Gerald Hodges and Jabari Price will not play this weekend...
Zimmer also announced on Monday that Gerald Hodges and Jabari Price are unlikely to play this weekend against the Chiefs. Hodges left the game last week with a knee injury while Price's injury remains undisclosed. Also, Shaun Prater will likely be cleared of a concussion today and return to practice on Tuesday.
