Mankato, MN - Starting week number three and leading up to practice number nine of Vikings Training Camp, Head Coach Mike Zimmer and Special Teams Coordinator Mike Priefer met with the media to discuss last Saturday's night practice and this coming Friday's first preseason game. Today's edition of The Coaches Notebook highlights some of their preparations and adjustments.

Andrew Sendejo returns to the practice field...
Safety Andrew Sendejo returned to the practice field for the first time on Monday afternoon and saw limited reps as the team slowly re-acclimates him into the defensive backfield. "I need to see him," Zimmer said Monday morning. "We are going to watch him as he goes and be careful with him...we will see how it goes. If he does fine on individual drills, we will get him in some team stuff."

Zimmer Rolling deep at defensive backs...
The Vikings added another defensive back in Chris Crocker Monday afternoon and Zimmer discussed his beliefs on stock piling smart, skilled DBs in his system. "We've kept 11 defensive backs before," Zimmer said. "It seems like those guys are always getting nicked a little bit, as you've been seeing here in this camp, so we try to keep quite a few of them if we can."

Still room to critique Xavier Rhodes highlight interception...
Xavier Rhodes walked away from Saturday night's scrimmage with the play of camp (so far) in his pocket. A go route down the far sideline saw Xavier Rhodes do his best Willie Mays impression, even adding in a dive to pick off Matt Cassel and send the crowd into a tizzy. While he was impressed with the athleticism shown by Rhodes, head coach Mike Zimmer still found room to critique the corner backs play. "It was a great interception," Zimmer said. "It was poor, poor position on the receiver, but he made a great play. We have to get him to be in the right position and then make the play easy and then he does not have to make great plays."

Anthony Barr not exempt from criticism either...
The other standout player on Saturday was rookie linebacker Anthony Barr. Perfectly on cue, Zimmer found room to continue critiquing Barr as well. "He's doing well," Zimmer said of Barr's progression. "He miss aligned a couple of times again. The thing, kind of like what I was talking about with Xavier, he makes the play and it's a great play but he doesn't have to make a great play, he can make it an easy play."

Replacement for during Priefer suspension coming after preseason game #1...
It's been the most often reoccurring question at Training Camp this season, and today Mike Zimmer shared a little glimpse into what the team might plan to do when Mike Priefer is suspended for the first three games of the season. Zimmer has said that the team is looking at bringing in a temporary replacement while Priefer is gone and Monday he said that the decision would be coming after Friday's game against the Oakland Raiders.

Special teams prepared to kick outdoors at University of Minnesota...
Special teams coordinator Mike Priefer commented on the field conditions and wind patterns his team will face Friday evening on the campus of the University of Minnesota. "They have it figured out," Priefer said of his special teamers. "There's charts and diagrams, I wish I could show you but I don't want that to get out for obvious reasons. They're comfortable with what they've seen so far."

Open auditions for returners Friday night vs Oakland...
With Cordarrelle Patterson and Marcus Sherels in line to be the team's number one kick and punt returners, Mike Priefer will audition a handful of others on Friday night against the Raiders. "I want to see some other guys," Priefer said. "I would like to see Adam Thielen take some kickoffs and punts, Jerick McKinnon, Kain Colter, probably those three to start, then we'll see where we're at."
