Hennepin County authorities have dropped a felony domestic assault charge against 27-year-old free agent forward Dante Cunningham.

In April, Cunningham was accused of choking his girlfriend in their suburban Minneapolis home. He faced a charge of domestic assault by strangulation in Hennepin County.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reported the following:

In their dismissal notice, Hennepin County prosecutors said: "Based on further investigation, there is not proof beyond a reasonable doubt for the charged offense."

Cunningham was traded to Minnesota from the Memphis Grizzlies in July 2012 for shooting guard Wayne Ellington.

The 6-foot-8 forward was one of the league's most efficient offensive players around the basket before the trade, but has seen his success rate dip since joining the Timberwolves.

Cunningham averaged 6.5 points and 4.1 rebounds in 22.7 minutes during the 2013-14 season.

He is currently an unrestricted free agent.
