Twins trade 2B Brian Dozier to Dodgers for Forsythe, Raley & Smeltzer

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired second baseman Logan Forsythe, minor league outfielder Luke Raley, and minor league left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer in exchange for second baseman Brian Dozier.

Forsythe, 31, played in 70 games for the Dodgers this season, hitting .207 (40-for-193) with 10 doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI, 17 walks and 18 runs scored.  The 6-foot-1, 205-pound infielder has played parts for eight seasons at the major league level with San Diego (2011-13), Tampa Bay (2014-16) and Los Angeles-NL (2017-18), hitting .247 (640-for-2591) with 126 doubles, 12 triples, 63 home runs, 252 RBI, 330 runs scored and 271 walks.

Raley, 23, was drafted by the Dodgers in the seventh round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Lake Erie College.  The 6-foot-3, 220 outfielder/first baseman played in 93 games for Double-A Tulsa this season, hitting .275 (106-for-386) with 17 doubles, five triples, 17 home runs, 53 RBI, 65 runs scored, 24 walks and a .345 on-base percentage.  In three seasons in the Dodgers organization, the left-handed hitter batted .286 (316-for-1104) with 52 doubles, 22 triples, 35 home runs, 139 RBI, 201 runs scored and a .360 on-base percentage.  He was named to the California League All-Star team in 2017 and the Texas League All-Star team in 2018.  In addition, he was ranked as the 19th best prospect in the Los Angeles organization by MLB.com and the 26th best prospect by Baseball America this past off-season.

Smeltzer, 22, was drafted by the Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Florida Gulf Coast University.  The 6-foot-3, 195-pound left-hander pitched in 23 games (14 starts) for Double-A Tulsa this season, going 5-5 with a 4.73 ERA (83.2 IP, 44 ER), 19 walks and 67 strikeouts.  The Voorhees, New Jersey native has pitched three seasons in the Dodgers organization, going 12-14 with a 4.53 ERA (236.2 IP, 119 ER), 55 walks and 238 strikeouts.  He was recently named to the Texas League All-Star team.
