The good folks over at Frontier Communications did the leg work for us and after 20+ years of amazing horror films, they've compiled the data by state in the United States to determine which horror film character is the most popular.
Here's the methodology according to Frontier...
We selected 15 popular villains from classic, pre-2000 horror movies and used Google Trends to analyze their search volume in the last 12 months. We then reported the villain with the highest search volume in each state.
Without further adieu, the most popular Classic Horror Movie Villain is Norman Bates from Psycho.
Thirteen states chose Bates as their favorite character followed by eleven who landed on Chucky.
For those of us here in Minnesota, apparently we're looking to the stars for our fears and have identified the alien from Alien as the most popular horror villain.
