Maybe you haven't been paying attention, but Netflix has been on a bit of a hot streak lately. I know, that's saying a lot for the company that's already behind Stranger Things, House of Cards and The Crown. But the month of December was pretty solid.
First The Haunting of Hill House was legit (more on that later). Then they hit a gigantic homerun with Bandersnatch and then the other day we watched Bird Box.
To date, the Netflix original movies have been nothing to write home about. Even bringing in big stars like Will Smith couldn't save Bright from being a boring, confusing mess.
But Bird Box might have changed the course for Netflix's movie future.
In fact, according to Netflix who never shares numbers for the streaming features, Bird Box set a new record as the most popular movie on the platform ever.
Here's the tweet from Netflix that broke the news...
Took off my blindfold this morning to discover that 45,037,125 Netflix accounts have already watched Bird Box — best first 7 days ever for a Netflix film! - @Netflix on Twitter
Sandra Bullock was fantastic in and the movie had me on the edge of my seat to the end.
Here's the synopsis...
When a mysterious force decimates the population, only one thing is certain -- if you see it, you die. The survivors must now avoid coming face to face with an entity that takes the form of their worst fears. Searching for hope and a new beginning, a woman and her children embark on a dangerous journey through the woods and down a river to find the one place that may offer sanctuary. To make it, they'll have to cover their eyes from the evil that chases them -- and complete the trip blindfolded.
