Coffey Named Big Ten Player of the Week | KFAN 100.3 FM

Junior guard Amir Coffey was recognized Monday as the Big Ten Player of the Week, marking the third consecutive weekly honor for a member of the Minnesota men’s basketball team. It is Coffey’s first career player of the week award, after being named top freshman twice during the 2016-17 season.

Coffey powered the Gophers to a 62-50 win at Northwestern on Thursday, earning his first career double-double with 31 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. The Hopkins, Minn., native also set a new best with 12 made field goals and tied a career high with three 3-pointers and one block, playing all 40 minutes in the road victory.

For the season, Coffey leads the Gophers and ranks 10th in the Big Ten averaging 15.2 points per game. In conference-only games, Coffey is seventh scoring 16.5 points per game. He has reached double figures 23 times this season including five games of 20 or more points.

Coffey joins Daniel Oturu and Jordan Murphy as weekly award winners in the last three weeks, as the duo earned Freshman of the Week (Feb. 25) and Player of the Week (Feb. 18), respectively.

The Gophers return to action on Tuesday, hosting Purdue in the final home game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
