Talk about being petty...
According to the Green Bay Press Gazette WIXX-FM, a radio station in Green Bay, WI, has edited out three references to the Minnesota Vikings out of the popular song "Truth Hurts" by Minnesota Rap/R&B artist Lizzo when they play it back on the radio.
The song, which is blowing up across the country, mentions the Minnesota Vikings in the context below...
Fresh photos with the bomb lighting
New man on the Minnesota Vikings
Truth hurts, needed something more exciting
Bom bom bi dom bi dum bum bay
As part of the chorus, the phrase is reference three times...at least on most radio stations. But in Green Bay, they took it upon themselves to extend a football rivalry into Top-40 radio play and edited the phrase "Minnesota Vikings" out in much the same way they would edit out cursing for a radio edit version of a song.
According to the Press Gazette, they station did reach out to Lizzo's label to run the idea past them, but the label couldn't exactly understand why this was deemed necessary.
“They kind of chuckled,” WIXX music director Otis Day told the Press Gazette. “They didn’t seem to fully understand the reason we couldn’t play it. ‘Why can’t you play it?’ they asked ... Because this is Green Bay, man.”
Here is the original version of the song...
