The Minnesota Vikings have been scrambling at the tight end position over the last 72 hours.
First came the news that Irv Smith Jr. would be undergoing knee surgery after an injury suffered in the final preseason game. Then we heard that the team had traded for Chris Herndon with the Jets. Next up, we found out that Smith's injury will likely cause him to miss the entire season with a 4-5 month recovery.
Well, add to the mix a waiver wire claim as the Vikings have successfully claimed TE Ben Ellefson from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Ellefson, an NDSU grad, started four games for the Jaguars last season as a rookie finding the endzone one time.
It's unclear where Ellefson will fit into the mix at this moment, but depth is of the essence for the Vikings at TE right now.
