15 years ago Disney decided to close the doors to the only water park that they owned and operated. It was called "River Country" and it opened for business back in 1976. While it's unsure exactly why they closed the gates, stories of rare amoeba's at the park causing health issues, competition and lack of size/capacity caused the temporary closing in 2001 and then permanent shutdown in 2005. Naturally, they decided to move on. What's rare about this case is that instead of selling off anything that would bring in cash, they opted to leave it there, as is, untouched to this very day.
Now, with overgrown shrubs and fallen trees strewn throughout the property, Disney's "River Country" is an eerie wasteland with a few remnants of the fun that used to be had on. Check out some of the videos below to see what used to be and then some THEN/NOW photos in the gallery as well...
