TWINS PLACE PHIL HUGHES ON DISABLED LIST
Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher Phil Hughes on the 10-day disabled list with inflammation of the right biceps tendon. In 11 starts this season, Hughes is 4-3 with a 5.74 ERA (47.0 IP, 30 ER), 11 walks and 30 strikeouts.
To replace Hughes on the 25-man roster, the Twins have recalled right-handed pitcher Kyle Gibson, who will start tonight in Baltimore. Gibson made two starts for the Red Wings, going 0-2 with a 2.92 ERA (12.1 IP, 4 ER), five walks and 18 strikeouts. He made the Twins Opening Day roster and went 0-4 with an 8.54 ERA (26.1 IP, 24 ER), 13 walks and 16 strikeouts, and was optioned to Rochester on May 4.
