Twins Acquire Moya From Diamondbacks in Exchange for Murphy

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired left-handed pitcher Gabriel Moya from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for catcher John Ryan Murphy.

The 22-year-old Moya, has appeared in 34 games for Double-A Jackson this season, going 4-1 with a 0.82 ERA (43.2 IP, 4 ER), 12 walks, 68 strikeouts and is 17-for-17 in save opportunities.  The Venezuelan native, who was a Southern League Mid-Season All-Star this year, has appeared in 160 career minor league games (12 starts) in the Diamondbacks system, going 20-10 with a 2.68 ERA (248.1 IP, 74 ER), 71 walks and 317 strikeouts.

Murphy, who was acquired via trade with New York-AL in exchange for outfielder Aaron Hicks in 2015, appeared in 26 games for the Twins in 2016, hitting .146 (12-for-82).  The 26-year-old played in 59 games for Triple-A Rochester this season, hitting .222 (43-for-194) with four home runs and 27 RBI.
