Minnesota Twins Make Roster Moves

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have returned outfielder Robbie Grossmanfrom rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 10-day disabled list.  They have also selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Michael Tonkin, recalled right-handed pitcher J.T. Chargois from Triple-A Rochester and placed him on the 60-day disabled list, and reinstated left-handed pitcher Dietrich Enns from the 10-day disabled list and optioned him to Double-A Chattanooga.

Grossman, who missed the last 18 games with a fractured left thumb, played in two games on rehab assignment for Triple-A Rochester, going 1-for-7 with two walks.  He has appeared in 98 games for the Twins this season, hitting .243 (77-for-317) with 17 doubles, seven home runs, 35 RBI, 60 walks and a .363 on-base percentage.

Tonkin made the Twins Opening Day roster and appeared in nine games, allowing 11 runs (8 earned) on 14 hits in 11.0 innings pitched.  He was optioned to Rochester in mid-May and made 31 appearances for the Red Wings, going 4-2 with a 1.73 ERA (41.2 IP, 8 ER), 13 walks, 61 strikeouts, one home run allowed and a .205 opponent batting average.

Chargois missed a majority of the season due to a right elbow impingement.  He will be transferred to the 60-day disabled list, making room for Tonkin on the 40-man roster.

Enns, who missed the last 20 games with a left shoulder strain, appeared in two games on rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester, allowing one run on six hits in 5.2 innings pitched with two walks and five strikeouts.  He will join the Lookouts, who begin their playoff schedule tomorrow night vs. Montgomery.

Additionally, left-handed pitcher Adalberto Mejía will have his rehab assignment transferred from Rochester to Chattanooga.  He has missed the last 25 games with a left arm brachialis strain.  Mejía appeared in two games on rehab assignment with Rochester, allowing one run on eight hits in 8.0 innings pitched.

The Twins now have 32 players on their active roster: 17 pitchers, three catchers, seven infielders and five outfielders.
