After a hot start to Vikings OTAs last week, Kirk Cousins was back under center for a second straight week today as the media got their second shot to see the new Vikings quarterback in action.
While today's performance didn't turn heads the same way that I would say last week's did, Cousins finished today's 11-on-11 sessions 8 for 12 passing hitting mostly underneath passes and lacking the big play splash that we saw last week through connections with Diggs and Thielen.
But I did see something today that should comfort Vikings fans and John Defilippo alike. Today was the day that we witnessed Kirk take a little further control of the Vikings offense.
On Multiple occasions today we saw Cousins going under center to read the defense, change the play and connect with his receivers.
As I mentioned above, there weren't too many "splash" plays today but on these particular instances where Cousins did his darnedest to crack the code of the Vikings defense, and when it worked, he pumped his fist and would yell praises to his teammates and cheers from the backfield in that all familiar "you like that" amped up tone.
It's just another step in the process as Cousins continues to master John Defilippo's offense here in Minnesota and seeing it modified on the fly all the way to showcase on field success is a good sign for all involved as it's the most "game-like" scenario that we'll see here in non-contact OTAs.
