Offensive line concerns?? - VOX Thoughts from Vikings Training Camp

I'm not sure what is next with the Vikings offensive line. Due to injuries Reiff, Compton, Edison, Isidora and Hill ran with the ones again today at practice. That in my opinion will be the starting five Saturday night at Denver, which means I'd imagine they'd limit Kirk Cousins to a certain extent. I very much hope Mike Remmers and Pat Elflein return soon.

Not sure what to think about Tom Compton because I haven't seen him play enough. Cornelius Edison is tough and is improving practice by practice and Isidora has a legit chance to win a job at guard if Nick Easton misses a significant amount of time. The reports with Easton mention a neck injury, and it's not something about which I am asking when having private conversations about the team.

I say play a couple preseason games with what you have and move from there. You drafted Isidora because you liked him, so let's see him play a few series at Denver, bang heads with Jacksonville at practice next week and play more in the second preseason game against the Jags.

I believe with compensatory picks the Vikings have 10 selections in next years draft and good players who might not make the team, so trading for an OL who can play C-G may be in play, too.

I'm excited to watch these guys Saturday night at Denver because the running game behind the first line has been really good of late. I'd like to see Dalvin Cook get outside more, but his tough-love yardage between the tackles has been fun to follow.

Here are a few things I saw Tuesday at practice:

Rookie CB Mike Hughes had a terrific PBU on a perfectly thrown pass to Adam Thielen. I feel you can play him in regular-season games right now and not take a step back. Not kidding, he's a terrific football player.

Spicer's Brandon Zylstra caught a sideline pass on Xavier Rhodes, and 29 screamed at him. I thought it was weird an elite player like Rhodes would be concerned with Zylstra catching a ball on him, but being elite means you feel you never should permit a catch.

After Kendricks, Barr, Gedeon and Wilson there probably are two LB jobs up for grabs, and watching those guys play defense and special teams will settle that story. Seriously, there are guys flying around most have not heard of who are playing well and two will win jobs in the NFL, which is super cool.

Terence Newman got some "nickel" run with the first defense in 11-on-11 and, per usual, looked good. He's becoming one of my all-time favorite Vikings the more I get to know him because of how well prepared he is and how comfortable he is in his skin.

Barr played some RDE and didn't get by Riley Reiff. The first time I saw him shift there was when Everson Griffen and Reiff started to get chippy, so the coaches replaced Griffen with Barr.

Bottom line, these guys are ready hit men in different colored jerseys, and that takes place on the 'FAN and FOX 9 Saturday night at 8.

Can't wait.
