Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson remains a free agent as most team's Training Camp sessions have come to an end. Knowing how Peterson has treated camp in the past, this all may have been part of his plan though.

Still, now that the season is around the corner and most teams have two preseason games under their belt, the injuries are starting to pile up. When it comes to the running back position, no team has been hit harder than the Washington Redskins who are rumored to have invited Peterson to D.C. for a tryout on Monday.

The Redskins have seen rookie Derrius Guice already fall for the season with a torn ACL, Chris Thompson continue with a nagging injury and Samajr Perine also hampered with an injury. Thus the open door for Peterson.

Peterson spent most of the season last year with the Arizona Cardinals after a failed experiment to start the year with the New Orleans Saints.

Appearing in six games for the Cardinals, Peterson racked up 448 yards and 2 touchdowns on 129 carries, an average of 3.5 yards per carry. Peterson suffered a neck injury later that season and was placed on the Injured Reserve in December ending his year.

It's unclear how much Peterson has left in the tank but if he's able to reassemble some sort of an opportunity with the Redskins he could continue climbing up the all-time rushing ladder. Adrian is currently 12th all-time for career rushing yards with 12,276 less than 100 yards from cracking into the top ten.
