Just when we thought the lineup was set...Just when we thought that any moves would be focused on the offensive line...Mike Zimmer pulls out his rolodex and Rick Spielman works his magic to sign one of the best safeties the league has seen in the past decade.
According to multiple reports from Ian Rappoport and Tom Pelissero, veteran safety George Iloka is on his way to the Minnesota Vikings and sign with the Vikings later today.
Whoa. Free-agent safety George Iloka is on his way to Minnesota, and it appears likely he signs with the #Vikings today, per @RapSheet and me. Mike Zimmer connection from #Bengals days. One of the NFL’s best defenses about to get even better?— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) August 22, 2018
Mike Zimmer had Iloka for two seasons in Cincinnati and was likely the impetus behind the Vikings attempt to land Iloka in free agency a few years ago.
Just think about this for a second. One of the best defenses in the league adds an All-Pro safety...Harrison Smith AND George Iloka on the back end...whoa!
