After what seemed to be "the perfect" send off from Target Field and Twins fans back a few months ago, the news is as we thought it would be. Twins first baseman Joe Mauer will retire from the MLB after 15 seasons with the Minnesota Twins.
According to a retirement announcement from Mauer obtained by the Star Tribune, Mauer himself officially announced the news.
“After much consideration I have decided to retire from playing baseball,” he wrote in his retirement announcement. “The decision came down to my health and my family. The risk of concussion is always there, and I was reminded of that this season after missing over 30 games as a result of diving for a foul ball.
