Steelers Player Kameron Kelly Released by Team Following Arrest

Pittsburgh Steelers v Cleveland Browns

A former defensive back for the Pittsburgh Steelers was arrested on Friday after he allegedly made terroristic threats and resisted arrest, USA Today reports.

According to a court documents, Kameron Kelly, 23 was at a bar in the southside of Pittsburgh when he allegedly became upset that his music selection had been skipped on the jukebox at Mario's Southside Saloon. Police say Kelly allegedly threatened to knock out an employee at the bar.

When Pittsburgh police were called, an officer removed Kelly from the bar and told him he could not reenter. At one point during the confrontation, the officer accidentally stepped on a woman's foot, who Kelly claimed was "his girl." Kelly then allegedly "aggressively approached" the officer saying, "I promise to God I'll **** you up, boy."

Officers attempted to arrest the defensive back, who then began to allegedly resist arrest and punch the officer several times with a closed fist, the report states. Kelly was treated for a lip injury at UMPC Mercy and later taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Kelly, who signed with the Steelers back in April, was waived by the team Monday afternoon following his arrest.

The former defensive back had a season-high six tackles during the team's season opener against the New England Patriots. Kelly, who played college ball at San Diego State, initially signed with the Dallas Cowboys following the 2018 draft, but he was cut before the season started. His last appearance in a game came against the San Diego Chargers in Week 6 of the NFL season.

The Steelers said in a statement about Kelly's release that they had promoted safety Marcus Allen to the 53-man roster.
