The Vikings announced on Thursday afternoon that they have placed their starting fullback on the reserve/COVID-19 list. C.J. Ham has been a huge reason for the team’s success in the run game and it’s likely he won’t be able to play Sunday with the move coming so late in the week.
Being a fullback in today’s NFL doesn’t warrant a ton on the stat sheets. However, Ham has continued to help the Vikings rushing attack climb towards the top of the league since his first Pro Bowl appearance last season.
Although nothing has been confirmed, the chances of Ham playing with the announcement coming this late in the week seem slim. The current backup is former UNC tight end Jake Bargas, who has been on the practice squad.
The Vikings could try and get creative with the position ahead of their late afternoon game against the Cowboys on Sunday. Irv Smith Jr. is another name to keep an eye on in the role if he’s healthy enough to play this week.
