Vikings bring back WR Chad Beebe on one-year deal

Carolina Panthers v Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are bringing back a familiar face to a receiving corps that has lacked depth over the last few seasons despite always rostering at least two stars.

Chad Beebe’s agent announced on Wednesday that he has signed a one-year deal to stay in Minnesota.

In 2020 Beebe had the best season of his career, hauling in 20 catches for 201 yards and two touchdowns. The stats aren’t much, but Beebe has returning ability and familiarity with the system.

His contract reportedly comes in at the veteran minimum worth $920K, so the Vikings aren’t breaking the bank to retain a much-needed depth piece. Behind Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson, the wide receiver group is thin as it sits right now.

Beebe likely shouldn't be considered the third receiver and there’s still a good chance the team looks to add another one through free agency or the draft. There were rumors circulating that they had interest in Keelan Cole, so that could be a name to watch out for in the upcoming days.

The wide receiver market has been slow, as superstars like JuJu Smith-Schuster and Kenny Golladay are still free agents. The deep 2021 wide receiver class could play a role in this, and the Vikings could find another one in the later rounds with a lot of upside.
