Bucs Re-Sign Playoff Hero, Returning All 22 Starters From Super Bowl Team

Super Bowl LV

"Playoff Lenny" is officially returning to Tampa Bay.

Running back Leonard Fournette and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to a one-year deal worth $3.25 million, with incentives to grow to $4 million, sources told ESPN on Friday (March 26.)

With the re-signing of Fournette, the Bucs will return all 22 offensive and defensive starters from their recent Super Bowl LV winning team, according to Pro Football Focus.

The former No. 4 overall pick enjoyed a career resurgence during his only year in Tampa Bay after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars just days ahead of the 2020 season. Fournette accepted a backup role behind Ronald Jones, but eventually took over as the Bucs' starter after Jones suffered a broken finger, was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list and experienced a quad injury, which sidelined him for Weeks 15 and 16, as well as the NFC Wild Card game at Washington.

Fournette recorded 225 yards and four touchdowns during that span, which included 93 yards and two touchdowns against the Washington Football Team, earning the "Playoff Lenny" moniker.

The former LSU standout continued his impressive stretch throughout the postseason, recording 448 total yards -- the most of any player from scrimmage -- and four touchdowns during the playoffs, including a 27-yard score in Super Bowl LV.
