Body cam shows "accidental discharge" as cause of Daunte Wright's death

Police Shooting Near Minneapolis Sparks Protest

Sunday afternoon an officer involved shooting led to the death of 20-year old Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Wright had been pulled over by police for expired registration when it was discovered that he had an active warrant for his arrest. A struggle ensued outside of the vehicle when an officer accidentally discharged her firearm when intending to use her Taser.

This morning, at a press conference with the Mayor of Brooklyn Center, Police Chief Tim Gannon released the body camera footage from the officer who discharged her weapon. The footage appears to support this narrative, but the BCA is investigating the entire incident separately of the Chief's findings.

Below is a portion of today's press conference including the bodycam footage in question.
