Police Shooting Near Minneapolis Sparks Protest

(Brooklyn Center, MN) -- The mother of a 20-year-old Black man fatally shot by police near Minneapolis claims he was pulled over because of his air fresheners. Brooklyn Center Police say they pulled over Daunte Wright for a traffic violation and tried to take him into custody because of an outstanding warrant. As he tried to get back into the car, an officer shot him. While speaking to a growing crowd near the incident Wright's mother, Katie, said he was able to drive a short distance away before crashing. Wright's mother also pleaded to officials to take her son's body off the road, saying he had been lying there lifeless for hours. His girlfriend was in the car at the time of the incident, but was not hurt.

Schools in the area will be shifted to distance learning on Monday.
