The Vikings escaped Carolina with an overtime victory in which the defense played great until the final five minutes. One of the bigger plays on the Panthers late two-minute drive was a pass to D.J. Moore in which he burnt Cameron Dantzler.

Dantzler replaced the Vikings biggest 2021 free agency addition in Patrick Peterson, who had to be carted off the field with a leg injury.

After the team called him questionable to return on Sunday with cramps, they announced on Monday that Peterson has been placed on the IR with a hamstring injury.

Peterson will now have to miss at least three games before he can return. Mike Zimmer said in his press conference that they do not believe the injury is season ending.

Nevertheless, the Vikings have a brutal four game stretch against teams that will likely be in the playoff hunt come January. Those games will now be even more difficult with the Vikings having to figure out a way to replace an All-Pro caliber cornerback.

It’ll likely be Cameron Dantzler who gets the starting role opposite of Bashaud Breeland, who’s played much better as of late. Both cornerbacks have shown promise throughout their careers, but they’re going to be tested right out of the bye against Dak Prescott and the Cowboys.
