Already up against the wall for their salary cap in 2022, the Minnesota Vikings received $6 million in cap relief this morning through a restructured deal with a veteran.
According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Vikings and safety Harrison Smith agreed to move $6 million of salary from 2022 into a signing bonus for Smith to receive now.
Smith, 33 years old, has four years left on his contract right now but there is a team out after the 2023 season which would leave them with minimal dead cap money going forward.
Harrison has spent the entirety of his 10-year NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings and has been an integral part of their defense the entire way. His 16.5 sacks is a franchise record for DBs and he finds himself in the top-ten for franchise stats with tackles and interceptions as well.
