American skier Mikaela Shiffrin finished off the podium during the giant slalom and a rare international play hockey fight took place during the ninth day of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics on Sunday (February 15).

Shiffrin, 30, a two-time gold medalist and the all-time winningest Alpine skier in history at 108 career wins, finished seventh, with Italy's Federica Brignone winning gold, Germany's Lena Dürr taking silver and Italy's Sofia Goggia taking bronze. Shiffrin competed in the giant slalom for the first time since suffering a huge crash during a race in November 2024, which resulted in a puncture wound to her abdomen and muscle trauma, having publicly addressed struggles with PTSD after the accident.

"I look back on last year in returning to racing after my injury and returning to giant slalom, I was so far off, and I didn't have a hope of being faster," Shiffrin told NBC News after her completing her second run. "Now I'm in touch. I'm in touch with the fastest women, and I have a chance, which, for me, the biggest thing is that ability to dream."
