It was 30 years ago (Sunday, April 21st) that we were first able to pick up our video games and take them on the road with us thanks to Nintendo's Original Game Boy console. It often gets overlooked by the Game Boy Color or the Game Boy Advance iterations, but man oh man this is the grandaddy of them all, quite literally.
Upon release it cost about $94 for the gray handheld system. The first game for the system, Tetris then cost you an additional $89.99. Seems steep based off of the standards that have been set for video games today, but they flew off the shelves selling one million units the first Christmas it existed.
To date Nintendo has sold 118.69 million units of the original Game Boy system.
Some of the all-time greatest games were released on the system including Tetris, Super Mario Land, Kirby's Dream Land and more.
