Back in 1997, the world of video games changed forever. Powered by the Nintendo 64, GoldenEye 007 was released and preteen production around the world (already at an all-time low) dropped considerably.
But for real, if you were of age during this period of history you know how impactful this game was. Hours on end playing multi-player with your buddies. The Golden Gun, paintball mode, Oddjob...all of those terms are triggering for my generation and it takes you back to a simpler time.
Now, if you're anything like me, at some point in the recent past you've also done your best to dig out an old copy and dust off your N64 to play one of your all-time favorite games only to be greatly disappointed by ancient graphics and terrible controls compared to what many of us are used to when it comes to first person shooters nowadays.
Well get this, a remastered version of GoldenEye 007 which was once lost to sands of time, has resurfaced and it's even playable if you know where to look.
Here's the backstory for all of this. A couple years back, the crew that developed the original GoldenEye 007 went back to the well and remastered the whole game for XBOX 360. The reboot came with updated graphics, updated controls and general gameplay improvements. While it's not PS5 nexgen quality, compared to N64 emulators this thing looks fantastic. Trust me, #IYKYK. But it was never brought to the surface due to copyright issues. Last week that changed when a half hour video of gameplay was released and holy smokes you guys, it looks freaking amazing!
Rumor has it you can find playable versions online if you know the right places to look and the right way to get it playing...Multiplayer is a part of it, but only locally right now, but the whole iconic campaign is a part of it as well!
