Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN– The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed catcher/infielder/outfielderWillians Astudilloon the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain. Astudillo is hitting .263 (35-for-133) with seven doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI, 19 runs scored and a .665 OPS in 39 games.
To replace Astudillo on the 25-man roster, the Twins have recalled outfielder LaMonte (lah-MONT) Wade Jr. from Triple-A Rochester. Wade played in 70 games for the Red Wings, hitting .248 (59-for-238) with five home runs, 24 RBI, 51 walks and a .759 OPS. In his last 20 games for the Wings, he has hit .338 (22-for-65) with six doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI, 15 runs scored, 16 walks and a .987 OPS.
Wade, 25, was drafted by the Twins in the ninth round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Maryland. He has played parts of five seasons in the Twins’ minor league system, hitting .279 (459-for-1648) with 66 doubles, 17 triples, 40 home runs, 235 RBI, 257 runs scored and an .803 OPS in 463 games.
