There's been a bit of conversation the past week and change surrounding who should serve as the Vikings backup quarterback in the playoffs. It's likely a moot point since quarterback injuries are rare, but in a scenario that Case Keenum has to be pulled from the game for a snap, a series, a quarter or the game, who is better off serving as his backup.
There are arguments for both Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford and certainly arguments against both of them as well.
Technically speaking, the Vikings don't have to officially confirm anything until and hour and a half before kickoff this coming Sunday, and according to Zimmer's coy response at his press conference on Monday, they probably won't make a formal depth chart announcement until then. But there is one thing that could still tip their hand as to who will serve as Sunday's backup before the Sunday afternoon deadline at 1:10pm.
Sam Bradford has returned to practice for the Vikings but he has not been removed from the Injured Reserve list yet. Beginning with last week's activation, Bradford has 21-days before the Vikings NEED to make a decision to activate or deactivate him for the rest of the year. At that point, the team will have to make a roster move. Roster moves, unlike active roster submission need to be made at least one day prior to game day. From there, we'll be able to deduce some sort of intel on Bradford's depth chart status if and when this announcement comes.
Why might that tip their hand you ask?
Because the Vikings wouldn't activate Bradford and take a roster spot away from someone else if they didn't plan to use him on Sunday even in a reserve role.
Again, none of this really matters since Case is your starter and only if he gets injured will we even see Teddy or Sam, but be on the lookout because this action might be able to answer your questions about the backup a day or two earlier.
