For the Minnesota Vikings, their eyes are fixed and focused on the future at the NFL Scouting Combine this week but that doesn't mean they don't have a pulse on the rest of the offseason including free agency.
One big free agent that will dictate the Vikings decisions going forward is linebacker Anthony Barr. Hope exists that Barr will return to Minnesota after having a bit of a bounceback year in 2018. Then Paul Allen, Charch and Ben Leber chatted with Adam Schefter at the combine this morning and that hope is all but blown up.
Schefter referenced Barr's desires and the team's interest in trading him to the west coast this time last year. According to the report, the Vikings shopped Barr, couldn't find a deal they like d and retained him for the season. But that doesn't mean that scenario didn't have an impact on how Barr felt, how the Vikings felt about him and what will ultimately end up happening.
Here's the quote from Schefter...
"I would be really surprised if he's back in Minnesota. I go back to last year at this time, my understanding was that he preferred to be on the west coast in California. My understanding was that they would be open and receptive to listening to offers for him. Nothing every materialized. I was waiting for him to be traded before the draft...it didn't happen but with the way that it unfolded and some of the things I've heard behind the scenes, I would be surprised if he would be back [in Minnesota]."
