According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen has voided the remaining three years of his contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
Griffen was scheduled to make $12.9 million in 2020 and that relief allows the Vikings to drop back below the projected salary cap for the upcoming season.
The move and decision by Everson was probably preventative given the low probability that he would have stayed with Minnesota at that price this season. Opting out likely makes it more likely than it was before that he returns to Minnesota under a more reasonably negotiated deal given his current status.
