Vikings potential draft prospects: Florida Wide Receiver Van Jefferson

Florida v Georgia

Heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have multiple holes that need to be addressed. This week on KFAN.com, there will be a series of draft prospects being highlighted before the draft starts on Thursday night.

With the Stefon Diggs trade now in the rear view mirror, the wide receiver position is going to have to be addressed in the earlier rounds of the draft. The good news for the Vikings is this wide receiver class is historically deep. There will be receivers selected on day two of the draft that will be able to come in and make an impact on day one.

It seems obvious that the Vikings should select a wide receiver at some point of the draft, but that could be anywhere from the first to the fifth round. If one of the bigger names like Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb or Justin Jefferson are available at 22, the Vikings could decide to pull the trigger on a receiver in the first round.

With the amount of other needs the team has, and the depth of this wide receiver class, the Vikings could focus on other needs in the first round. There are multiple receivers that are more than likely going to be available on day two, and Van Jefferson is one of those prospects.

Jefferson would bring great route running to the Vikings, paired with really good hands. He is 6’2 and almost 200 pounds, but he isn’t the fastest wide receiver in this class. He isn’t necessarily a wide receiver that is going to blow past cornerbacks with his speed, but his good route running makes up for that.

The Vikings added Tajae Sharpe in free agency, and Irv Smith Jr. seems poised for a breakout season in 2020. Having said that, the Vikings still should focus on bringing in more talented receivers through this deep draft class. The combination of Jefferson with a straight up speedster in another round would leave the Vikings receiving corps in good hands for years to come.

Stay tuned for more draft profiles coming throughout this week on KFAN.com. The profiles will be addressing positions of need for the Vikings, and there will also be reaction pieces available after each day of the draft.
