Heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have multiple holes that need to be addressed. This week on KFAN.com, there will be a series of draft prospects being highlighted before the draft starts on Thursday night.
There have been some rumors around the NFL that the Vikings have interest in Washington’s Trent Williams. This is something to keep an eye on throughout all three days of the draft, but if the Vikings were able to get a similar type of player in the draft it would make a lot more sense.
That is exactly what they would be getting out of Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, if they were able to make a trade up in round one. The price might be too high to pay for Rick Spielman and company, but Wirfs is a player that would be worth trading up for.
He is one of the most athletic tackles the draft has ever seen, ranking in the 99th percentile in 40-yard dash time, speed score and burst score according to PlayerProfiler.com. He is 6’5, 320 pounds and ran a 4.85 40-yard dash at the combine.
Wirfs is one of the more exciting players in this draft class, and that says a lot when an offensive lineman is getting that much attention. He would bring versatility to whichever team that selects him and could fill a hole at either tackle or guard.
He would be a perfect scheme fit for the outside zone running scheme that Kubiak brought with him to the Vikings in 2019. Having said that, the Vikings would more than likely have to pay a steep price to trade up high enough to land Wirfs. It is unlikely that this happens, but who knows how crazy things are going to get with the league’s first ever virtual draft.
Stay tuned for more draft profiles coming throughout this week on KFAN.com. The profiles will be addressing positions of need for the Vikings, and there will also be reaction pieces available after each day of the draft.
