Report: Vikings sign three-time All-Pro CB Patrick Peterson

Seattle Seahawks v Arizona Cardinals

As the workday was coming to an end for most 9-5 employees, the Minnesota Vikings were apparently just getting started.

ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday night that the Vikings have agreed to terms with former Arizona Cardinal cornerback Patrick Peterson.

Peterson has been a star coverage corner since entering the league in 2011. In his ten-year career he’s totaled 499 tackles, 28 interceptions, 12 fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and is a three-time first-team all-pro with an additional eight Pro Bowls made.

At 30 years old, Peterson is by far the oldest cornerback on the Vikings’ roster. The much-needed experience should help boost Mike Zimmer’s faith in a younger and still fairly unproven cornerback group.

He should also bring in additional leadership for guys like Jeff Gladney and Cameron Dantzler, who both showed significant strides throughout the 2020 season.

This is a splash signing for the Vikings and it will allow them to allocate draft capital on other areas of the roster. The defense has gotten much better since 2020 and the season hasn’t even begun.
