Brown has registered six points (1-5=6) and 82 hits in 41 career Stanley Cup Playoff games with Tampa Bay (2013-16) and Anaheim (2017-18).

Brown registered 38 points (14-24=38) and 51 PIM in 64 games during two American Hockey League (AHL) seasons with the Syracuse Crunch (2012-14). The right-shot winger totaled 84 points (40-44=84) and 109 PIM in 81 games during two seasons with the University of Minnesota Duluth (2010-12), helping the Bulldogs capture the 2011 NCAA National Championship at Xcel Energy Center. He was selected the tournament's Most Outstanding Player and one of six players named to the 2011 NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament Team. Brown also represented the United States at the 2012 IIHF World Championship.

Brown played Minnesota high school hockey at Rosemount High School and, after going undrafted, signed an entry-level contract with Tampa Bay on March 28, 2012.
