The Minnesota Wild will no longer have to practice at local rinks when the Xcel Energy Center is in use.
When the players move in to the new Wild practice facility in the bowels of the Treasure Island Center on September 24, they will have access to the new state-of-the-art training facility all year long. The Xcel Energy Center will only be used for games and morning skates on gamedays, and gone will be the days of players taking a bus to Braemar Arena or St. Thomas Ice Arena.
Instead, they will board a 20-second elevator ride that will take them directly from their locker room to the Tria Rink on the fifth floor.
The bottom floor of the building belongs entirely to the Wild and features new offices for Head Coach Bruce Boudreau and his staff, a weight room, a film room, a sauna, and more. The new locker room is arguably nicer than their main locker room a few blocks away at the X, with it’s oval shape and large, backlit Wild logo on the ceiling.
While the bottom floor will only be used by the Wild, the Tria Rink upstairs will be used be used by a number of different organizations at all levels. The Minnesota Whitecaps will play call the rink home in their first season in the NWHL, both Hamile men’s and women’s teams will play their home games at the rink, and numerous youth and high school hockey games will be held in the new facility.
After years without a dedicated training facility, the Wild have found a perfect solution just blocks away from their home rink.
